With only 16 appearances for Manchester City this season, Aymeric Laporte is clearly not one of Pep Guardiola’s favourites right now.
The Spaniard had even been a regular starter last season, but with the manager now mostly using the likes of Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji and Ruben Dias, he ended up being left aside.
So as outlet AS features a story about Laporte, they point out that a departure from Manchester City this summer is actually very possible.
It’s claimed that the 28-year-old is ‘not satisfied with his situation’, and he’s now ‘open’ to seeking a club where he can have ‘more protagonism’.
Barcelona are named as a potential destination, as they have him as a target and he’s actually interested in returning to La Liga.
The big problem here is that Laporte has a big salary at Manchester City, with a contract which runs until 2025, so he’d need to take a big pay cut at another club. We all know how Barça have been acting in the past few transfer windows, so that would require a big operation.
But there should be other options for the defender, as AS writes that his situation has been drawing attention from many clubs and Spain isn’t the only destination on the table. So that should be a busy summer for him.
