Although no one can deny how successful have Manchester City been under Pep Guardiola in the past few years, it’s clear that a Champions League title is still missing for this squad.
The Citizens have won four of the last five Premier League titles, and could well be on their way to another trophy this year, but they may still have their priority somewhere else.
That’s confirmed by Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan in a long interview he had with Sky Sport Germany this week.
The midfielder was quizzed whether he’d rather win the Premier League or the Champions League this season, and had no doubts about his answer.
Manchester City are currently preparing to face Real Madrid in the Champions League’s semifinals, and Gundogan made his own analysis of that clash.
“It’s fifty-fifty. If you go by history, then probably Real Madrid. Something in this competition connects Real Madrid and that trophy so much, it’s crazy. The level of rip-off they act in this competition is unparalleled.”
“I know from last year how quickly things can change in 90 minutes, so I think it’s going to be an open exchange. It’s going to be two fantastic games for the neutral crowd.”
Manchester City and Real Madrid play the semifinal’s first leg on the 9th of May at Santiago Bernabéu, and then face each other in the decisive game at the Etihad Stadium on the 17th.
The winner faces either AC Milan or Inter Milan in the final.
