Manchester City’s owners appear to be on the verge of winning the race for Uruguayan youngster Luciano Rodriguez, often called the ‘new Luis Suarez’.
According to journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, the player is one step from being purchased by the City Group, who are set to send him to Girona.
Since the La Liga side will be in the Champions League next season, Manchester City would have a hard time registering him and loaning them to the Spanish club, so he’s set to go straight there.
Girona are reportedly paying around US$10m for the signing, with 30% staying with Uruguayan club Liverpool, and it’s now being discussed if this percentage will be from the full amount of a future transfer or just the profit,
Other South American clubs such as River Plate and Palmeiras were said to be in the fight for the player, but they can’t compete with the City Group’s money.
Covering the news, Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola says the idea is for the player to spend a couple of years getting experience at ‘smaller clubs’ as Girona, and then try to get a chance to play for Manchester City.
