There always seems to be a problem with Samir Nasri. The Manchester City owned player can’t go through a season without at least one ‘episode’ of Nasri-ness.

Moving to Sevilla on loan at the start of the season, Nasri was absolutely excellent. Welcomed like an arriving superstar, the Frenchman took the challenge on and showed some brilliant form. Seville feel in love, but they kept playing Nasri even when he picked up a knock, the player was pushed too much, rushed back from injury and started to feel the impact.

Like several of the Sevilla squad, Nasri is feeling the impact and his performances have dropped off. With Nasri especially, much of the blame can be placed at Sevilla’s door and their early season gambles with his fitness.

Spanish newspaper Sport report on Wednesday that Sevilla won’t be using their buying clause. Manchester City had agreed to sell Nasri to the Spanish club for €25m as part of the loan, but there’s no interest in paying that.

Manchester City have the 29 year old on a contract until June 2019, so this summer have to work out what to do with him again. The loan has worked out well for Sevilla, but not for Manchester City, and that’s a similar situation to Eliaquim Mangala at Valencia.

Sport say the drip controversy hasn’t helped, neither has Nasri’s red card against Leicester, but the real problem here is cost, and it was always going to be that way.
