Manchester City will need to up their efforts to sign Ibrahim Maza, with Bayer Leverkusen now out in front.
That’s according to BILD, who say it is almost guaranteed that ‘top talent’ Maza will leave Hertha BSC in the summer transfer window.
He wants to take a step to a bigger club and the list of interested parties is long, with Manchester City firmly among them. They are believed to have ‘expressed interest’ in the 19-year-old.
However, according to BILD’s information, Leverkusen are currently ahead in the race for the Maza and have a ‘promising chance’ of securing his signature.
The competition for Maza is fierce, though, with Manchester City, Atletico Madrid and other top clubs from European football all showing an interest. VfB Stuttgart are also in the mix.
They’re all looking to secure a bargain as Maza’s contract includes a release clause for this summer. Hertha are hoping to get €10m, which would be considered low given Maza’s undeniable talent.
The poker game is on but the club who wins will be the one who can convince him the most between their ‘potential’ and a ‘financially attractive package’. Manchester City would presumably have no problem when it comes to the second point.
Maza has hinted he would prefer to stay in Germany, though, so Manchester City may need to up their efforts if they wish to beat Leverkusen to his signature.
