Manchester City loanee João Cancelo had quite a big reaction after he scored a goal in Portugal’s win last night.
With the national team beating Bosnia 5-0 away from home, the player apparently thought it was time to respond to negative comments with a furious celebration.
After that, he continued to display his anger post-match.
The quotes are brought by Sport, who recall the Manchester City loanee has been criticised for off the pitch issues at Barcelona, and state he now ‘explodes against his critics’.
“The celebration was with anger because things happen that are not related to football and what I have done is to value myself. It was a slap in the face for those who criticise me,” said João Cancelo.
“I’ve always been a professional wherever I have been. Some people sell an image of me that is not true. I have a good heart and I do everything I can to help the Portugal national team and Barça.”
Sport recalls that Cancelo had been targeted by criticism for recently refusing to give some autographs out in Barcelona, and responded by claiming that was because those asking were doing so with the intent to sell them on.
The outlet also claims that despite his reputation of being a problematic player, he’s actually ‘very satisfied’ at the Camp Nou side and the club would be delighted to buy him, even though Manchester City are setting a high price for the sale.
In case that’s true, it’ll be interesting to see how much Barcelona will put on the table at the end of the season. So far, he’s been a regular starter for the Catalan side, with eight appearances.
