Sergio Aguero is edging closer to signing for Barcelona when he leaves Manchester City at the end of the season.

That’s what Sport suggest today, reporting that the Argentine striker has an ‘agreement in principle’ in place to join the Catalan giants.

Aguero announced last month that he would be leaving Manchester City at the end of the season when his contract comes to an end.

That started something of a race for the striker’s signature, with it looking likely that he will be joining another top European side rather than make a move downwards.

Barcelona have been heavily linked with his signature from day one, with it reported that they consider him a cheap option worth exploring this summer.

Indeed Mundo Deportivo reported today that those involved at the club have given their approval for the signing, and talks between the two parties have intensified in the last few days.

Sport now pick up on that and state that there is a principle agreement in place for Aguero to join on a two-year deal when he leaves Manchester City.

They say the club and his agent have reached an agreement for Aguero to join on July 1st, and the striker has lowered his wage demands in order to ‘fulfil his dream’ and play alongside Lionel Messi at club level.

Ronald Koeman has also given his approval to the deal on the provision that it does not stop the club making a move for Memphis Depay.

That is something that has also been agreed upon, with Aguero set to fill the role of second striker currently occupied by Martin Braithwaite.

He did have the option of joining Juventus but prefers the move to Spain to link up with Messi and play alongside him at club level.
