On July 3rd, journalist Ángel García stated Atlético Madrid’s Rodrigo Riquelme has ended up on Manchester City’s radar.
The winger has spent the last three years on loan and today’s AS states he either stays with the La Liga or is sold because another loan move is not on the cards.
He has an ambition to succeed at Atlético and Diego Simeone has called up the 23-year-old for the pre-season tour.
With a contract until 2028, the Spaniard has suitors from his country and also abroad. For the latter, Manchester City are the only team that’s mentioned in the report.
It’s claimed the attacker is ‘very popular’ in the Premier League and at ‘Manchester City in particular’.
AS say Pep Guardiola’s side are ‘willing to pay’ to secure his services but the price needed to take him away from the Metropolitano isn’t mentioned.
Real Betis are also showing interest in him but the report states the Citizens are ‘in the lead’ to sign him.
It won’t be easy for Manchester City or Manuel Pellegrini’s side to carry out the deal because Simeone seems keen to have Riquelme at his disposal next season.
