There’s been recent talk about a potential loan move for Vitor Reis from Manchester City to Girona, but Brazilian journalist André Hernan has now denied those claims.
According to the reporter, the 19-year-old defender is expected to rejoin the English club for pre-season on July 27th, and there are currently no negotiations underway with the Spanish side.
Vitor Reis had recently been linked to Girona by several outlets in Brazil, with reports suggesting the La Liga side – part of the City Football Group – saw the former Palmeiras talent as a priority target. The move was framed as a logical step, given the tough competition for places at Manchester City.
The centre-back joined City in January in a €37m (£31.5m) transfer that made him the most expensive Brazilian defender in history.
Since arriving in England, Vitor has featured in only three matches for the first team, with a total of 226 minutes on the pitch. His debut came in the FA Cup against Leyton Orient, followed by appearances versus Plymouth Argyle and Leicester City.
Despite his limited playing time, the youngster received praise from manager Pep Guardiola earlier this year. After a strong showing against Plymouth, the City boss highlighted Vitor’s focus, physical qualities and long-term potential.
Still, the Brazilian has not been seen on the pitch in over a month, alternating between being an unused substitute and not making the matchday squad at all.
As things stand, it appears the City staff want to keep him close during pre-season, and any loan talks – if they were ever on the table – have been put aside for now.
