Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva told the club he wanted to leave in the summer, but “nobody came looking” for him.

That’s according to the club’s South American scout Joan Patsy, who says Barcelona were unable to afford the Portuguese star.

Silva was heavily linked with a move away from the Etihad throughout the summer transfer window, when Manchester City were again reshaping Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Barcelona were thought to be highly interested in the midfielder as part of their own overhaul of their squad via the use of various ‘levers’.

A deal never happened, with Silva remaining at Manchester City for another year and continuing to play a starring role for the Citizens this season, with two goals and five assists in 14 Premier League games.

He has continued to be linked with an exit, though, with Barcelona still admirers and the player set to enter the final two years of his current deal next summer.

Whether Silva will ever make the switch remains to be seen but he was keen on an exit in the summer, at least according to Patsy.

“Bernardo Silva told us in the summer that he wanted to leave City, but nobody came looking for him. Barça? They had no money,” he told Què T’hi Jugues.
