Liverpool are today pointed out as a suitable destination for Bologna centre-forward Joshua Zirkzee.
That’s a suggestion made by his former coach Ferry Verbeek, who used to work with him at VV Hekelingen and is now interviewed by Sportitalia.
The manager was asked about Zirkzee’s current season with Bologna, and when asked whether Juventus or AC Milan would be a best destination for him, he brought Liverpool to the conversation.
“I think he would definitely have a bright future at AC Milan. At Liverpool or Barcelona, however, he would be better in his element, with a lot of forward pressure and a lot of ball possession.”
Zirkzee joined Bologna in the summer of 2022, when they signed him from Bayern Munich on an €8.5m move.
Playing for the Serie A side this season, he has 11 goals and six assists in 30 appearances.
That’s why he’s been linked to an exit from the club this summer, and even Premier League sides have been said to be chasing him.
Liverpool aren’t one of the clubs who’ve been said to be interested, though, so we’ll see whether Verbeek’s suggestion could open the Reds’ eyes for the striker.
The problem is that Zirkzee is already valued by Transfermarkt at €40m, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the fight for his signing makes his price go way up, with some claiming Bologna will use the Rasmus Højlund deal as a basis for negotiations.
