As widely reported by the Italian media in the past few weeks, Antonio Conte could soon be taking his first job since his departure from Tottenham Hotspur, as he’s one of the candidates to take over Napoli for the next season.
That’s why the local press has been recalling some of his time at Spurs, pointing out what went wrong for him to work at the Premier League side for just one and a half years.
Some fresh comments were now made by manager Fabio Viviani, interviewed by 1 Football Club. In quotes relayed by Area Napoli, he claims that Conte did not have as much influence at Tottenham as he would have liked.
“There is little to say about Conte. I believe, however, that the Lecce man wants to have more influence from a managerial point of view. He always tries to build a foundation for success. That’s what I think he suffered most from at Tottenham, not being able to compete with rivals,” said Viviani.
It’s worth recalling that Conte was definitely not alone at Tottenham, as he had the company of Fabio Paratici at the club, and the duo were responsible for many of the signings in that period.
The coach took charge of Spurs in February 2021, and he stayed until March 2023, taking charge of 76 games, managing a rather good record of 41 wins, 12 draws and 23 losses.
