Last week, former Liverpool midfielder João Carlos Teixeira backed Rúben Amorim to be Jürgen Klopp’s successor at Anfield.
Portuguese newspaper Record now claims the Sporting manager is on the Merseyside club’s radar.
Klopp has confirmed he’ll step down at the end of this season and Liverpool have already started looking at a few candidates.
Recent claims from France and Germany have explained that the Reds and Bayern Munich are set to battle it out for Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso.
Record relay that and add that the Spaniard is the first choice for Liverpool, followed by the Sporting coach. The report states Amorim’s current deal lasts until 2026 and includes a €30m release clause, which will be lowered to €20m for clubs outside Portugal.
Although he’s happy at Sporting, the manager has warned that he’ll leave the club if they don’t win a title this season. Amorim’s side are second in the table, two points behind leaders Benfica, with a game in hand.
On the rumours around his future and Liverpool, he said: “I’m not going to dwell on the subject, and I’ve already said what I had to say. Every time I mention it, the subject comes up again.”
Amorim helped Sporting win the league title during the 2020/21 season.
