Liverpool have been linked to a few managers ever since Jürgen Klopp announced he’ll step down at the end of this season.

However, the Reds have Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso is on ‘top of the list’ to replace the German.

That’s according to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, who took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to provide the latest on this case.

Aouna claims the 42-year-old is ‘aware’ of the Merseyside club’s interest, and adds that Liverpool ‘could propose’ an offer to him.

Foot Mercato, through their website, add the Spaniard has made it known to those close to him that he’s interested in three to four clubs, where he had spells during his playing career.

Alonso was at Anfield between 2004 and 2009, and the report states it would be logical for him to replace Klopp at Liverpool.

He has also represented Bayern Munich, who also have Alonso on top of their list, but only if the Bundesliga winners decide to part ways with Thomas Tuchel.

Alonso started his coaching career at Real Sociedad’s reserve team before taking the job at Leverkusen in 2022.

The German club, who are unbeaten in the league this season, are top of the table, and the manager’s work there has attracted attention from Liverpool, Bayern and others.
