On Thursday, Bayer Leverkusen knocked West Ham out of the Europa League and with that, the Hammers now risk failing to qualify for Europe next season.
West Ham are currently eighth in the table with 48 points, leading ninth placed Chelsea by a point, with the latter having three games in hand.
David Moyes’ future at the Premier League side remains uncertain and he could be replaced by Julen Lopetegui.
That’s according to TuttoMercatoWeb, as they discuss the latest on the West Ham option for the 57-year-old, who is also on AC Milan’s radar.
The Spaniard has been without a job since leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 2023 and could return to England by replacing Moyes at West Ham.
It’s claimed there were fresh talks between the parties on Sunday afternoon and that has seen an acceleration in negotiations, so much so that the former Wolves manager is ‘one step away’ from reaching an agreement with West Ham.
The report states the Hammers are ready to say goodbye to Moyes and start a ‘new cycle’ under Lopetegui from next season. The latter is expected to sign a three-year deal.
TMW state a section of the Milan fans weren’t happy with the news of Lopetegui possibly replacing Stefano Pioli and add that the fresh development around West Ham should certainly please them.
