David Ancelotti is back in the mix for the Rangers job and is now in ‘advanced negotiations’ over a move to Ibrox.
That’s according to El País, who report that the most advanced talks he is currently having are with Rangers over their vacant manager’s position.
The newspaper explains that the current plan is for Ancelotti to join his father in coaching the Brazilian national team in their first games against Ecuador and Paraguay.
After that, though, Davide is planning to break from his famous father and move into senior management himself. It’s a step he’s been planning for some time and enlisted the help of David Villa’s agency, DV7, to plan his next step months ago.
He’s already held talks with several European clubs, including Rangers, presenting his project and holding deep discussions over management of the first team, the youth academy and relationships with sporting directors and other branches of the club.
Davide wants a job that is long-term and currently the most advanced talks he’s holding are with Rangers about the position at Ibrox. There’s also a plan for his backroom team, which would include Francesco Mauri, Real Madrid’s set piece coach.
There are also two options in Spain, one in La Liga and the other in the second division, which sources close to Ancelotti insist he hasn’t ruled out. He wants to find the right team at which to begin his solo managerial career and Rangers are right in the mix.
Last week saw the Spanish media rule out a move to Rangers because Davide Ancelotti would be going with his father to Brazil. Well, El Pais, one of Spain’s major newspaper, now say that’s partly true… just that he’s only for two matches and could therefore take over at Rangers after that.
Brazil face Ecuador on June 6th and Paraguay on June 11th.
