With Rafael Benitez entering into his final months of contract at Newcastle United, he refused to provide an update on his future during an interview with AS in February.

Earlier this month, we covered claims from RMC Sport that the Tyneside club have ‘concretely placed themselves’ to acquire the services of Lyon manager Bruno Genesio, if the Spaniard decides to leave St James’ Park.

Genesio confirmed that he will step down from his position as Lyon’s manager after this campaign.

Le10 Sport in France claims the reports linking the 52-year-old with Magpies are ‘false’ and ‘largely inaccurate’.

It’s further stated these rumours started circulating as the situation around the former Liverpool manager’s future beyond this term remains uncertain.

The French outlet have not only ruled out Genesio joining the Premier League outfit, they further stressed Newcastle’s ‘priority’ is to extend Benitez’s contract… which goes without saying.

Even though the current Lyon manager has confirmed his decision to leave the club, Le10 Sport explains he will not be joining the English club next season.
