Sevilla manager Jorge Sampaoli ‘loves’ Tottenham outcast Bryan Gil and would have signed him for Marseille last season.
That’s according to ABC Sevilla, who say contacts are already underway between the two clubs to make a deal happen in January.
The newspaper explains that Sevilla chief Monchi is working to improve Sampaoli’s squad next month in an effort to turn around their poor start to the season.
A deal for defender Loic Bade is already close to being completed, at which point the Spanish chief will turn his attention to improving the midfield and forward options.
There is an interest in Tottenham’s Pape Matar Sarr, who also own an ‘old acquaintance’ in Gil, who joined Spurs from Sevilla in the summer of 2021.
The forward is a player that current manager Sampaoli ‘loves’ and he would more than happily work with again if he could.
Two weeks ago, he ‘admitted his weakness’ for the youngster, insisting that Gil was one of the players who caught his eye during his last spell in charge and that he wouldn’t have been allowed to leave if he had been in charge a year ago.
He also revealed that he wanted to sign him for Marseille last season and that has not changed now, so much so that there have ‘been contacts’ between Sevilla and Tottenham over a deal.
