West Ham United target Pablo Maia is unlikely to leave his club São Paulo in January, according to reports from Brazil.

As IG now features a story about the midfielder’s situation, they claim that the Tricolor have ‘no intention’ of letting him go next month.

São Paulo are well aware that they have a player with big potential in their hands, and that’s why their plan is to hold him for a few more months and only think of a sale in the summer of 2023, when he’s set to be worth a little more.

West Ham are named as one of the clubs who recently made an approach for Maia and ‘showed interest’ in signing him.

This week, we saw São Paulo director Carlos Belmonte confirming the interest from English football, claiming they’ve been getting several contacts for the player.

“Today I’m not afraid to say that Pablo Maia is our most coveted player in the squad right now. Pablo Maia, we have surveys almost daily, mainly from English football, because English football understands that he adapts very well to the English game.”

West Ham recently confirmed the signing of Luizão, also from São Paulo, whose contract with the Tricolor was about to expire.

Now the situation with Maia should be a little more complicated, since the youngster’s deal with the Brazilian side only expires in two years.
