Mads Roerslev’s move from Brentford to Wolfsburg is a step upwards for the player, simply because he’ll get more gametime.

That’s according to Denmark coach Brian Riemer, speaking to Tipsbladet, who believes the defender will benefit from the switch.

Roerslev left Brentford towards the end of January, joining Wolfsburg on loan until the end of the season.

He’s been a regular for Brentford this season, with 19 appearances in the Premier League but has only featured in 53% of the available minutes and been in the starting 11 48% of the time with 11 starts in 23 games and eight appearances from the bench.

He had been a starter regularly since December, appearing in the starting 11 in Brentford’s clashes against Brighton, Arsenal, Southampton, Manchester City, Liverpool and Crystal Palace. He hadn’t started a game since 4th of November before that.

Brentford’s signing of Michael Kayode would have pushed him down the pecking order, though, and it seems both he and the club decided to temporarily part ways after six years together.

Riemer is happy to see the move, though, believing it is actually a step up for the 25-year-old at this moment in time.

“I have not been involved in making the agreements, but I am absolutely sure that the players have given themselves good consideration and have been presented with a really good plan, so they have the prospect of getting important roles,” he said when discussing Danish internationals who moved in January.

“Mads Roerslev is the only one who can be discussed whether it is a step up. He has gone from Brentford in the Premier League to Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.

“But for many years he has been a reserve at Brentford. So even though he is moving away from the world’s best league, I think he will get a new role where he will be a regular.”
