Flamengo are optimistic about the negotiations to sign Jorginho from Arsenal and want to sign him to a pre-contract agreement in the next few days.

That’s according to GOAL Brasil, who report that Flamengo are convinced Jorginho will be a standout in Brazilian football.

They state that Flamengo are willing to pay a large sum to get the midfielder and so will offer him a contract worth RS$70m for three years, or two and a half years. Jorginho would like to receive this tax free.

Negotiations are still ongoing between Jorginho and the club over certain details. That is currently focused on him accepting a two-and-a-half-year deal as he is unlikely to arrive in this transfer window. The Brazilian window is open until February 28th.

The situation has reached this stage after months of negotiations and intermediaries speaking to the Arsenal midfielder with the intention of taking him to Brazil.

Jorginho has shown a willingness to make the move but wants to play for teams who will be play in the Club World Cup in June as well as afford to make him one of the highest earners in Brazil.

He first held talks with Palmeiras, but they never moved forwards and Flamengo have taken up the reigns instead. They are not negotiating with Jorginho’s staff but an authorised intermediary.

They now believe they are close to an agreement for the Arsenal midfielder and now want to formalise a pre-contract with him to guarantee his arrival in the middle of the year. They want to avoid competition or Arsenal convincing him to sign a new contract.

If that is done as they hope, they are not ruling out making a proposal to get him this month, convincing Arsenal to sell, rather than wait until the summer for him.
