Douglas Costa’s appearances for Juventus last season were restricted due to suspension and injuries and the Turin club considered offloading him in the summer.

According to Calciomercato the Old Lady were hoping to cash in €75m from the sale of the former Bayern Munich man and even listened to offers for the Brazilian before ‘trying to sacrifice’ Paulo Dybala.

It’s claimed Manchester United were in the front row for the winger, while their neighbours Manchester City were also interested in him.

Juventus tried to bring Paul Pogba back to the club in the last window and while negotiationing for the France international with the Red Devils, the latter asked for Costa.

Manchester United have long been chasing the 28-year-old, according to the Italian media, and it’s claimed Ed Woodward worked on specific instructions from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Juve’s chief football officer Fabio Paratici started talks, but without going into the details.

However, Costa’s exit was blocked by Maurizio Sarri, who was appointed as Massimiliano Allegri’s successor in June. Costa remains a key player for the former Chelsea boss this season.

Manchester United have been repeatedly linked with Costa in much the same way they were repeatedly linked with Alex Sandro, and it’s not too hard to doubt there’s much behind it.
