With most South American players from the Premier League getting stopped from joining their national teams at the international break, the drama goes on with them all wishing they could be taking part in the World Cup Qualifiers.

Manchester United star Edinson Cavani is one of them. Once the clubs stated they would not release footballers to travel to countries from the red list, the striker showed his dissatisfaction on Instagram.

Later on, Uruguay manager Oscar Tabarez explained that his staff decided it would indeed be better to leave the 34-year-old off their list, since the schedule would stop him from getting fit both for the national team as for the Red Devils.

Now Cavani spoke to AUFTV and explained the entire situation. He makes it clear he’d like to be in South America right now, but also showed respect for the decision.

“We’re exposed to decisions that are made in the organizations of certain tournaments and leagues and either of the two decisions is detrimental to us,” Cavani told AUFTV (via El Observador).

Cavani claimed to be ‘sad and hurt’ for not playing for Uruguay, who had a 1-1 draw against Peru last night.

“We do not get rich with the national team. We have a commitment to ourselves and a moral commitment to defend our country. We make wealth by wearing the national team’s jersey.”

“I spoke very clearly with the professor. Going was counterproductive for everyone. I told him: ‘Professor, I’m dying to go to the national team, but I have to make a decision because here it’s difficult.”

“It wasn’t going to allow me to be in rhythm and it was not going to let me be either for the club or for the national team.”

“I stayed here champing at the bit, really wanting to be there.”
