The rumours linking Sporting defender Gonçalo Inácio to Manchester United may not have been very intense lately, but that doesn’t mean the pursuit is over.
As reported today by Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã, the Red Devils remain interested in the centre-back, and will be watching him at the weekend.
The outlet features a story about the trip that a few English clubs will make to watch specific targets in the Lisbon derby, between Sporting and Benfica, on Saturday.
Manchester United are among them, as it’s said they’re set to scout Gonçalo Inácio. It’s only the Red Devils and Paris Saint Germain who are expected to observe the 21-year-old.
That’s all Correio da Manhã have to say about the Red Devils’ trip, besides pointing out that the defender is protected by a €45m release clause.
At the start of the month, the Portuguese media reported that Manchester United have been in touch with the player’s agent. That’s Miguel Pinho, with whom they already dealt when signing Bruno Fernandes from Sporting in 2020.
It was said the Red Devils were trying to get to know the conditions to sign Inácio this summer, and were still to speak to the Lions about the move.
