With Manchester United now without a manager after deciding to part ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, their priority is to steady the ship until the end of the season.
That search is still ongoing, but there is also the future of the squad to think about, with a midfielder, or maybe even two if Paul Pogba were to leave at the end of the season, high up on the list of needs.
Many names have already been touted, with Sergej Milinković-Savić among those reportedly added to a long list, and yet new ones are found on a regular basis.
The latest is that of Lovro Majer, currently showcasing his ability in Ligue 1 and the UEFA Europa Conference League with Stade Rennais following a close to £11m transfer from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer.
He’s taken to his new club so well, in fact, that other clubs, including Manchester United, have reportedly taken notice and want him for next season.
Tottenham are in pole position, but the website do point that other big European sides, like Manchester United and Bayern Munich are ‘also interested’.
That means it’s ‘difficult’ for Rennes to ‘hold onto the player for many seasons’, because as soon as those clubs come knocking, heads are turned.
Certainly a different option compared to the usual suspects, and perhaps one lower on whatever list has been drawn up in the transfer room at Carrington.
Still, food for thought and a story we’ll be keeping an eye out for going forward.
