Over the past few days, Flamengo fans were caught by surprise with the news saying the Rio de Janeiro sign could sign Pablo Mari back from Arsenal.

With Mikel Arteta finding little use for the defender, it’s been claimed he could head back to Brazil, where he won several titles during his spell there.

Now a new update comes from Mauro Sant’Anna, a Flamengo dedicated YouTuber, who’s currently in Montevideo covering the club’s preparations for the Copa Libertadores final at the weekend.

He claims that Mari is ‘unsatisfied’ with his situation in London, since he only made three appearances for the club this season, and that could help the chances of a deal.

It’s said that according to sources at Flamengo, the club are indeed interested in signing the defender back, even if only on a loan deal, as that’s normally the formula used to bring players in from abroad.

The biggest problem, however, is Mari’s salary.

The Brazilian club can’t pay anything close to what he earns at Arsenal, so the Gunners would need to come up with a solution where they continue to afford part of the wages.

The 28-year-old’s contract with the Premier League side runs until 2024.
