Manchester United youngster Facundo Pellistri has insisted he wants to have ‘maximum continuity’ next season after his loan spell at Alaves.
Pellistri has returned to Old Trafford this summer after his loan spell with the Spanish side came to an end last month.
What role he plays under Erik ten Hag next season remains to be seen, although the assumption is that he won’t have a place under the Dutchman for the time being.
Instead, it is likely the 20-year-old will be sent back out on loan to continue his development at a club where he can get regular playing time.
That’s certainly his plan, anyway, with the youngster admitting that it is crucial he is playing regularly in a World Cup year.
“Right now, I want to feel good again after the holidays, well trained, more than anything because this year is very important both at club and national team level,” he told Ovacion.
“You have to be ready for everything and prepare well. I want to have the maximum continuity of minutes to try to arrive well.
Pellistri had initially joined Alaves on loan from Manchester United in the January transfer window in 2021, joining them for the second half of the campaign.
He went on to establish himself as a regular during his time at the club, making 12 appearances in La Liga before the end of the season.
Despite not scoring or assisting, he impressed enough to join them on a season-long loan deal last summer, but the campaign proved to be a frustrating one for him as he managed just 22 appearances and 673 minutes of football in total.
Indeed, he only managed five appearances from January until the end of the season and spend the last five games either sat on the bench or out of the squad entirely.
It was not what he was hoping for when he left Manchester United, and he admits he wasn’t happy with the situation.
“I didn’t leave Alavés very happy, because I hardly played in any games,” he added.
“I left with a wonderful club, a wonderful group of people, a wonderful medical team and a wonderful staff. In that sense, even though it was complicated in terms of football, that whole period in Vitoria was wonderful.
“They never gave me a reason, but well? Every manager is different. Maybe they liked different things to what I could give them, and that’s totally respectable.
“It’s up to the coach to decide. I always gave my best, I trained 100%, and I was ready to play. The balance is negative. I would have liked to play more.”
