Portuguese newspaper Record today features a story about Sporting youngster Joelson Fernandes, who, after being left aside by manager Ruben Amorim last season, should have new chances to play for the club.

The 18-year-old is having his third pre-season with the squad and should finally get some chances with the first team, which is why he now rules out the exit to a place where he can have more minutes.

Still, many clubs are said to be interested in his signing, and one of them are Manchester United.

Even though the player is protected by a release clause of €60m, that was still not enough to back off some ‘sharks’ such as the Old Trafford side, who are ‘not deterred’ by the price.

The Red Devils are one of the clubs who ‘continue to follow’ his evolution with the Lions.

Record points out that Joelson has the ‘dream’ to make his debut in the Champions League this season, and that’s something that usually brings some heavy weight for young players who are getting valued.

Even though the winger only made four appearances for Sporting’s first team so far, Manchester United probably got to watch him while he played for Portugal’s U-15, U-16, U-17, U-18 and U-21 levels.

Other clubs such as Manchester City, Arsenal, Juventus and Barcelona are said to be interested as well.
