The name Exaucé Mpembele might not mean much to you (it certainly didn’t for us), but it’s one you might start hearing a bit more of after this season.
The 17-year-old has had a great campaign for Lille’s youth teams this season, as DH in Belgium explain he has scored 35 goals in all competitions for the club’s U17s and U19s.
These performances haven’t gone unnoticed, with a number of sides already queuing up to look at what the young prodigy can do, including Manchester United.
It probably isn’t a surprise to see the Red Devils in that list, seeing as Mpembele is capable of finding the back of the net with ease, tall for his age (just under 6’2”) as well as being able to play on both wings or through the middle, and it’s no secret Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to implement more youth at the club.
Manchester City are also mentioned, but their needs in the position are far lesser than Manchester United’s.
Both sides are said to be ‘keeping an eye on him’, alongside competition provided by Atlético Madrid, Milan or Red Bull Salzburg.
Lille are said to be trying to get Mpembele to sign his first professional contract, but nothing has been done yet, as the youngster ‘explores all the avenues’ in front of him, ‘prioritising the football aspect’ of things.
