Despite Gazzetta dello Sport’s claims that only Manchester United’s indecision over whether or not to replace Alexis Sánchez was holding up the deal, Corriere dello Sport think otherwise.
To them, the details over the wages are the problem, as the Premier League side want to pay as little as possible over the next year, hoping some middle ground can be found with the player.
The fact Sánchez earns around €15m/year post tax is a problem for Inter and United, with many bonuses helping reach that number, and it’s those extras the Old Trafford club are trying to reduce, like the appearance fees that would still need to be paid if he entered the San Siro pitch.
The Serie A side can only take on €4m/year of his salary, so Ed Woodward and co. are trying to work out how to reduce the remaining €11m.
So far, their efforts have been met with ‘limited results’, but overall, there remains hope this will eventually get done, as Corriere splash “Sánchez and Inter, a question of hours” as the headline for their article.
We’re getting there, folks, it’s just complicated and a bit slow.
