Last week, AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma became the youngster goalkeeper to play for the Italian national team when they faced France.
A lot is expected from the 17-year-old, who is already making headlines and has established himself as the first choice goalkeeper at AC Milan. However, Donnarumma has just a couple of years left on his contract and is earning just €160k/year at AC Milan.
Apparently, there is already a ‘draft agreement’ with Adriano Galliani for a new contract, which will see his wages increased to €1m/year.
Donnarumma’s agent, Mino Raiola, is waiting for guarantees from AC Milan’s new Chinese owners. Sport Mediaset say AC Milan might not sell the player even for €40m, after his debut for the national team.
As for now, Chelsea and Manchester United already have Thibaut Courtois and David De Gea respectively, and Donnarumma simply isn’t at that level yet.
A move to either club wouldn’t appear to make a great deal of sense, but things change and if either goalkeeper fancies a return to Spain then Donnarumma may well be a possibility. That would surely be further down the line, with the youngster needing more experience and almost certainly preferring to stay where he is.
