Incoming Manchester City signing Julian Alvarez has revealed he talked with Sergio Aguero about the club before talks had even been initiated.

Alvarez is set to join Manchester City this summer after Pep Guardiola’s side moved quickly to secure his signature ahead of increasing competition.

The Argentine is one of the hottest properties in world football after rising through the ranks at River Plate, where he has scored 50 goals and registered 29 assists in 113 games for the club.

There is great excitement about his arrival at the Etihad, with many hoping he could be the heir to Aguero’s throne at the club.

Those are big shoes to fill, and there will certainly be no pressure on him from Manchester City, who are also bringing Erling Haaland in to the club this summer.

The two will be competing for the striker’s role next season, but it seems Alvarez is planning talks with his compatriot to try and get the inside track.

“I had the chance to speak to Guardiola in February when the contract had just been signed,” AS report him saying.

“It was a brief chat in which he welcomed me and congratulated me for what I was achieving and that he was happy that I was joining City.

“With Kun, when we were in the national team, I asked him a few questions, but I hadn’t signed anything with City yet. I’ll probably send him a message in a few days.”
