Barcelona are interested in Eric García, and the Manchester City defender has been a regular topic of discussion for the Catalan media in the past few weeks.
The 19-year-old is on the front page of Sport, and it’s explained the centre-back and Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martínez are the La Liga side’s transfer ‘objectives’.
Within the report, it’s explained the Spain U21 international and the forward are the priority targets for the Catalan club.
Barca’s financial crisis has forced them to sell some of their players before bringing new faces to the club. The Blaugrana ‘will have to use imaginative formulas’ to achieve their transfer goals.
It’s claimed Martínez’s signing is complex because of the money needed to acquire his services.
Signing García, on the other hand, will be a ‘simpler’ operation because he wants to return to his former club to ‘have an important role in the team’.
The teenager has a year left on his current deal, and his contract situation at the Etihad ‘benefits’ Quique Setién’s side.
Therefore, City would ‘open the door to negotiate’ their player’s sale, because they want to bring signings in themselves. They want a new right-back, and Pep Guardiola’s side like Sergi Roberto. Another report from Sport states Roberto ‘doesn’t want to leave’ the Camp Nou.
Barca ‘would open the door’ to let Nélson Semedo join the Citizens. The Spanish giants are willing to use the Portuguese fullback as part of the three-way operation, which will see them sign García, and potentially also João Cancelo.
With both Barcelona and City in contention to win the Champions League, the two clubs will continue talks after the European competition.
Meanwhile, over at Mundo Deportivo they address claims García’s contract ends in 2022 and not 2021, and state Barcelona believe it’s the earlier date.
