Earlier this month, we covered claims from Germany that Leeds United manager Daniel Farke wants to sign Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Nico Elvedi in the winter market.
On Wednesday, SportBild reported Leeds’ interest in the 28-year-old is causing unrest at the German club.
Recent claims in England have talked about a swap deal involving the centre-back and Leeds’ Maximilian Wöber. Gladbach Live relay that and then give their take on the possibility of the exchange deal between the two clubs.
Wöber was on loan at the Bundesliga side last season, and they wanted to buy him, but weren’t willing to meet the €10-12m requested by Leeds.
The 26-year-old Austria international is ‘dissatisfied’ at Elland Road this season and the report states he could return to Gladbach if Elvedi were to move in the opposite direction. The Swiss had a €10m clause last summer and it’s the same figure Leeds are asking for Wöber.
Gladbach managing director Roland Virkus has insisted they have no plans to part ways with any of their core players.
He could change his stance in this case because Mönchengladbach would get Wöber, who can also operate as a fullback. The Leeds man also knows the club well and wouldn’t need time to adapt.
Farke and Leeds want to secure Elvedi’s services in January to ‘strengthen their squad with all might’ to improve their chances of returning to the Premier League.
From a German perspective, the deal ‘makes sense from all angles’, as Daniel Farke ‘does everything in his power’ to improve Leeds United this month.
