A couple of days ago, Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali was frontpage news in Italy.

There was said to be interest from Juventus and Corriere dello Sport had mentioned that the midfielder is valued at €55m by Newcastle United.

The Italian side’s sporting director Cristiano Guintoli is said to have been charmed by Tonali but Juve’s hopes of landing the 23-year-old in January have all been crushed by Corriere dello Sport today.

The outlet claim that an exit in the winter transfer window ‘makes no sense’ unless a huge offer arrives in Newcastle United’s direction.

Tonali hasn’t told the Magpies about the desire to leave and potential suitors will have to shell out more than the €70m that the Italian had joined the English club for. They will also have to pay a wage that is in line with his current €8m per season contract.

Also Newcastle United would have to replace the midfielder and doing that in January will be a complicated task from a financial perspective.

The report does go on to state that ‘anything could happen’ in the summer but for now, Tonali will stay where he is.
