Brighton & Hove Albion took Jakub Moder from Lech Poznań on deadline day and then immediately loaned him back to the Polish club for one season after offering a five-year contract.

The Seagulls had an option to cut short the midfielder’s loan at Lech Poznań in the winter market, and earlier this month the Premier League side confirmed they have recalled the 21-year-old.

Four days ago, Dean Ashworth, the technical director of the English club, spoke to the Polish media and explained Brighton first started monitoring the Poland international at the start of this year.

He also explained Moder was loaned back to Lech Poznań because they completed his deal late in the summer transfer window.

Despite having followed for months before making an approach, Moder came to know about Brighton’s interest very late and had to make a quick decision on joining Graham Potter’s side. He revealed this during an interview with Foot Truck, as relayed by Onet Sport.

“I went to a team that wants to play football. I did not analyse this issue before the transfer, because everything happened very quickly,” Moder said.

“I had to make a decision in one day. There was a Europa League draw, Darek Wojciechowski called and he said, ‘Listen, there’s an option – Brighton want you and they’ll loan you back to Lech for a year or a half.’ The next day I had to decide if I was ready for it.”

It turned out Moder was ready to take the next step in his career and he will be able to represent Brighton from January. He will arrive at The Amex having managed four goals and three assists in all competitions for Lech Poznań this season.
