Southampton’s Paul Onuachu impressed during his loan spell at Trabzonspor last season, scoring 17 goals and registering four assists from 25 games.
The striker has convinced the Turkish club to bet on him and they have made efforts to buy him this summer. However as yet they haven’t managed to agree a deal with Southampton.
Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan has revealed that Southampton have lowered the asking price from €15m to €10m, and his comments are relayed by Sabah.
The president insists that the Süper Lig side need to make an extra effort while the Saints have to further lower their request for them to sign the 30-year-old.
“Southampton opened the door for Onuachu at €15m. He reduced it to €10m. We came out a little more. The player told us he wanted to come. The same is the case for [Muhammed] Cham. We think we will meet at a common point soon,” he said.
The former KRC Genk star has two years left on his contract, and doesn’t seem to have a future at St Mary’s.
Günebakış have also relayed Doğan’s comments, where he insists that his side are keen to buy the Nigeria international. The Trabzon club president claims Onuachu has informed Southampton that he only wants to join Süper Lig side in this window.
“I won’t buy Onuachu for €15m. I won’t buy anyone, not Onuachu. We love Onuachu very much, we want him to stay, but this must be done under reasonable conditions. There are no reasonable conditions,” Doğan explained.
“His club is going down, we are going up. Hopefully, we will meet in a reasonable place soon and finish this business. Paul Onuachu also told his club that he did not want to transfer to any club other than Trabzonspor.”
With all parties keen for the deal to go through this summer, they should eventually find an agreement.
