Before Manchester United decided to lump for Casemiro towards the back end of the transfer window, there was a period when the Red Devils were negotiating to sign Adrien Rabiot.
In fact, the Premier League had gone as far as reaching an agreement with Juventus for the player’s transfer, but reports then claim it all went south when they tried to negotiate with the Frenchman’s mother, who is also his agent.
Véronique Rabiot was reportedly asking for wages of around €10m/year, which Manchester United didn’t seem prepared to pay, and the move eventually collapsed, leaving the midfielder to enter the final year of his contract with the Serie A side.
He quickly returned to the starting line-up under Max Allegri, where he has become an important part of squad, even if their form has been stellar to say the least.
Ahead of their Champions League game against Maccabi Haifa, Rabiot was asked about the summer fuss involving Manchester United.
He said, relayed by Corriere dello Sport: “There was a lot of talk, but I’ve always been focused both in training and in the game. The renewal? I don’t know. At the moment, there are other things to think about. I’m focused on the pitch and doing well for the team, to get them out of the difficult and then we’ll see what happens.
“Honestly, I’m not even thinking about the World Cup. I think it’s the same thing for the others too, we need to stay focused on the club.”
Rabiot has made seven appearances for Juventus this season, scoring two goals, both in the Champions League; a competition he wouldn’t be playing in if he’d completed his move to Manchester United over the summer.
