Just when it looked like the ongoing Giovani Lo Celso to Tottenham rumour was dying out, the end of the transfer window has given it new life.
It appeared that Tottenham had turned their attention away from the Argentine, with Daniel Levy seemingly deciding that Philippe Coutinho or Paulo Dybala would be better options late in the window.
That’s seeming not the case, though, with Diario de Sevilla and Marca reporting that Tottenham have re-established contact with Betis to try and get a deal done.
Marca report that Spurs have returned with ‘new proposals’ for Lo Celso and proposed ‘different formulas’ to what they’ve suggested previously. They hope that these will convince Betis into a sale.
Diario back that up and provide a little more detail. Spurs remain adamant that they will only pay €52m upfront but are willing to negotiate on the variables to get to the price Betis want for the midfielder.
In fact, the newspaper believes that they are trying to mimic the deal which took Junior Firpo to Barcelona and that could ‘unlock the operation’.
That deal saw Barcelona pay an initial fee of €18m with €12m in add-ons, thus matching Betis’ €30m valuation. It seems Spurs are willing to replicate that by adding €18m in add-ons to match Betis’ valuation of €70m for Lo Celso.
