The English press freshening up Liverpool interest in Gonçalo Inácio has given their counterparts in Portugal a chance to do the same.

Monday’s edition of O Jogo mentions the potential transfer on their front page and inside they go over the English reports before making Sporting’s stance very clear.

Liverpool are said to be working on signing the defender, with him one of the options to strengthen their squad in that position this summer.

According to the claims, Arne Slot has requested the Reds bring in another central defender, partly due to Joel Matip leaving Anfield.

That’s seen Gonçalo Inácio targeted, but Liverpool ‘won’t have an easy task’ signing him. O Jogo mention the player’s €60m release clause, and Sporting want something around that figure.

Indeed, they’d rather sell Ousmane Diomande if they’re to lose a central defender in this market. His form dropped as last season went on and the Portuguese media have made it clear Sporting are open to his exit.

Should that happen before Gonçalo Inácio goes anywhere then it would likely make a transfer even more difficult.
