Last week, a report from Italian website Calcio Mercato said Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in Vasco da Gama starlet Talles Magno.
The story claimed the Reds were alongside Juventus, Lazio and Roma in the race for the 17-year-old, who was just starting the season with the Rio de Janeiro side.
However, the youngster was injured at the weekend, picking up a fracture on the fifth metatarsal of his left foot.
When showing up for training on Monday, Talles couldn’t get on the pitch since he was in pain and his foot was swollen. It’s claimed was injured on a beach in Rio during Carnival.
Vasco doctor Marcos Teixeira has spoken to Globo Esporte about the procedure: “The surgery was super smooth, very good, Talles behaved very well. It was a technically good surgery to do, we were satisfied with the result. The surgery itself, the orthopaedic part, took about 30 minutes, but the total procedure time is longer. We believe that the surgery was a success.”
Covering the news today, website Medio Tiempo brings a headline saying ‘The Brazilian promise who would sign for Liverpool gets injured in Carnival’.
Besides leading their readers to believe the player was injured during a party, the outlet is also sensationalist about Liverpool, since all their text says is that the Reds are interested in the signing, along with the Italian sides.
Talles is expected to be out for three months.
