Real Madrid’s efforts are now fully focused on signing Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool, preferably on a free transfer.
That’s according to AS, who say the Liverpool star is the ‘favourite’ to occupy Real Madrid’s right-back spot long-term.
The newspaper reports that Real Madrid are clear that they need a new player in the position, with Dani Carvajal’s long-term injury having accelerated the need to find a replacement.
The Liverpool star is the man they really want and that is ‘indisputable’ at this moment in time. ‘Primary efforts’ at the club are being made to sign him and he is the ‘chosen one’.
He’s yet to renew his contract at Liverpool, which expires on 30 June 2025 and his future at Anfield is seen as ‘shaky’. Thus, Madrid want to fish on Merseyside.
Efforts are being made to make their move for him and the ‘courtship’ will intensify on 1 January when Alexander-Arnold will be officially free to negotiate with clubs regarding a pre-contract agreement.
Real Madrid will be allowed to negotiate a deal with him to sign him on a free transfer from Liverpool in the summer transfer window. Whether they could look to step up his arrival before then for a fee isn’t mentioned.
For now, it seems all focus is currently on 1 January when they can officially talk to Alexander-Arnold and try to prise him away from Liverpool.
