Jasper Cillessen moved to Barcelona from Ajax for a reported fee of €13n in 2016, and has been playing second fiddle to Marc-André ter Stegen since.
According to AS, the Dutch international is in the market and is attracting interest from clubs across the continent. Out of the potential suitors, Liverpool are “set to be more interested” in signing Cillessen this summer.
Jurgen Klopp currently has the services of Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet as his two senior goalkeepers at Anfield. The duo have not been consistent for the Reds, with Karius currently at the centre of his concussion debate following the Champions League Final.
Cillessen has already expressed his desire to play more games next season, but also admitted that he is happy with his current employers. The report claims the 29-year-old has left the decision on his future in the hands of the La Liga winners’ board.
He has a release clause of €60m in his contract. AS claims Barcelona view Cillessen as a “business opportunity” and he is one of the players who could help the club raise funds to invest in new signings this summer.
If Liverpool are serious about signing Cillessen, the report from AS should come as positive news as they look to bring in a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.
