This week’s edition of SportBild has an article on Timo Werner, with Liverpool taking up much of it.

That’s no surprise, the German magazine have been running similar stories for over a year, seemingly as keen as Werner for an Anfield move to happen.

However, this week it’s a bit different.

Instead of talking about how the RB Leipzig player would relish the move, and how well he’d fit into Jurgen Klopp’s system, even if he’d face a fight to get into the team, this time Liverpool’s desire is presented as very real.

The Reds are ‘serious’ about signing Werner, and Klopp’s wish for the player is ‘greater than ever’.

Unsurprisingly, Covid-19 gets a mention, with SportBild suggesting it’s only the current crisis which could stop Werner being ‘lured’ to Liverpool this summer. Their explanation is that Klopp likes to meet players personally before giving the final say on going through with a deal, and he can’t do so with Werner because of the current travel restrictions.

Werner’s clause must be activated before June 15th, presenting the possibility that UK travel restrictions will still be in place beyond that.

All of that said, players have spoken previously about speaking to Klopp over the telephone, or via FaceTime, before moving to Liverpool, so technology could play a role here.

That’s if the Premier League club are as interested as presented.
