Liverpool ‘have opened talks’ for the signing of Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United, according to reports from Brazil.
Goal Brasil writes that both the Reds and Barcelona are ‘willing to try’ to buy the 25-year-old this summer.
The report claims that Liverpool and the Catalan side made contact in order to get more information on the midfielder’s situation at Newcastle.
The Magpies, however, have other plans for now. They’re willing to give the player a new contract, knowing about the appreciation he’s gained since arriving at the club.
According to Goal, Bruno’s staff already told Newcastle about the Barcelona’s and Liverpool’s interest, but the St James’ Park side are also aware that the player’s preference is for the new contract.
It hasn’t even been a month since Spanish outlet AS came up with a similar report. At the time, they said that Barcelona, Liverpool and Paris Saint Germain were all interested in the midfielder, claiming the Reds could offer €100m for the signing.
Now Goal’s story takes it the other way, stating it’s likely for the Brazilian to stay at Newcastle than go anywhere else this summer.
