Earlier this month, Tuttosport reported that Liverpool made a rich offer to sign AC Monza goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio.
The Reds have to battle it out with Juventus as they are keen on signing the 26-year-old.
A fresh report from Tuttosport claims Liverpool made a ‘last-gasp’ attempt to secure the stopper’s services.
The Merseyside club have been trying to sign the Italian for some time. The report says the Reds made the ‘final and third attempt’ last week, when they offered €25m to Monza.
Liverpool’s repeated attempts won’t be enough to bring the goalkeeper to Anfield because he wants to join the Turin club.
It’s claimed Monza CEO Adriano Galliani and Di Gregorio have given their word to the Old Lady, and they don’t want to go back on it. This gives the Turin club a clear advantage in the transfer race.
Tuttosport say Juve have a deal in place with Monza to sign Di Gregorio on a loan deal [with €4m loan fee] with a buying option set at €16m.
The cost of the deal is €5m less than what Liverpool are said to have offered, but Juventus have managed to beat them to this operation.
