Liverpool have ‘never stopped thinking about’ Jeremy Doku and ‘will be back’ for him in the near future.
That’s according to Calciomercato.it, who believe the Reds will provide competition to Juventus and Napoli for the forward’s signature.
They explain that Doku was close to joining Liverpool five years ago, when he had been impressing as a youngster in Belgium.
That summer, after three years of developing at a rapid pace, Liverpool were in the window and keen on moving him to Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp invited the boy and his family to Liverpool, even using Steven Gerrard as their host at the club in an attempt to convince him on the move.
Doku was keen and as far as he was concerned ‘everything shines’ with the Reds but Anderlecht had an ace up their sleeve to convince him to stay.
They used a video with former favourite Romelu Lukaku advising him to stay where he was and develop in Belgium to convince him against the move to England.
It worked and he eventually joined Rennes in 2020, where he remains but has struggled to establish himself, with just four goals and six assists in 62 games.
That, though, hasn’t put people off, with them convinced that he has the skills and ‘great potential’ despite his lack of goals in France. Indeed, they are convinced that others have benefitted from his presence, something which has also affected his numbers.
Thus, the Premier league ‘continue to keep their eyes on him’ and Liverpool in particular ‘have never stopped thinking about him’. In fact, they ‘will be back’ according to CM.it.
Should they do so they will face competition from Juventus and Napoli, who have the player on their list. The former was even offered him a couple of years ago and know the player shares an agent with Wojciech Szczesny, which may hand them a small advantage.
