Liverpool have some serious competition to sign Theo Hernandez. Interest from Real Madrid has been reported previously, but Marca take it to a new level in their Tuesday edition.

Theo is on the Spanish newspaper’s front page, and inside there’s a double page spread about the Atletico Madrid owned player possibly moving to Real Madrid.

A couple of days ago another Spanish newspaper, AS, detailed interest from several clubs, including Liverpool, in the defender. Theo is currently on loan with Alaves, and Liverpool would have to pay his €24m clause, a little over £20m, to complete a transfer this summer.

Marca claim Real Madrid have already come to an agreement with Theo and the next step would be paying his clause when the window opens. It would be a declaration of transfer ‘war’ from Zinedine Zidane’s side, and could create waves in Madrid football.

The problem for the Rojiblancos is the release clause being relatively low, they can’t do anything if it’s activated.

That’s not to rule out Liverpool’s chances. Theo would have to compete with Marcelo for the left back position at Real Madrid, and the Brazilian is still only 28 years of age. At Anfield it would be a different story, with a bigger chance of a prominent role.

Klopp and Liverpool will have to move quick if the claims of a Real Madrid personal agreement are true.
