Liverpool may have to wait until the middle of July to push forward with a potential move for PSV Eindhoven star Johan Bakayoko, as he’s focused on Euro 2024 with Belgium.
That’s according to Eindhovens Dagblad, who do however insist that the forward’s agents are working on a potential move for their client.
The newspaper explains that there is a ‘good chance’ Bakayoko will be leaving the Dutch side this summer after continuing his rise with them this season.
The belief is that the tournament in Germany could be the catapult for him, like the way that former teammate Cody Gakpo used the World Cup in Qatar to his advantage.
That’s yet to happen for Bakayoko but it could, although it is ‘almost certain’ that he will leave PSV this summer regardless of that.
The 21-year-old’s management are talking to various clubs, with Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund having been named as suitors in various reports already.
Liverpool are more likely, at least according to ED, who say the German side don’t usually pay high fees for players and it’s debatable where they could meet PSV’s demands anyway.
They’re currently set at €50m, a price that is likely to scare away other potential suitors such as Barcelona, who have been credited with an interest in the Catalan media. There’s no mention of that happening to Liverpool.
If they are keen, they’ll have to wait anyway as Bakayoko is focusing entirely on European Championship for the time being.
Any transfer talk is being dealt with by his management and they are expecting that a transfer will only be finalised in July, when it is more clear how Belgium have fared in Germany.
