Liverpool have shown interest in signing AC Monza goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio in the summer window, according to Tuttosport.
Alisson Becker is the first-choice stopper at Anfield, but he’s been repeatedly linked with Saudi clubs recently.
Juventus are working to sign Di Gregorio, and Liverpool have made a last-ditch effort to beat the Serie A side.
Cristiano Giuntoli, the Turin club’s technical director, has made progress since his meeting with Monza CEO Adriano Galliani in April. The Italian’s agent, Carlo Alberto Belloni, will soon meet with the Old Lady to sort out the last details of the contractual agreement.
The Premier League side have tried to hijack Juve’s deal for Di Gregorio. It’s claimed the Reds made a ‘very rich offer’ to both the 26-year-old and Monza, which was higher than the one proposed by Juventus.
Tuttosport further states that Liverpool made a ‘desperate attempt’ last week, as they were in Milan to try to convince the stopper and his club. However, Di Gregorio and Monza have rejected the English club’s approach.
Di Gregorio wants to join Juventus, and Galliani would also like to honour his word given to Giuntoli. Tuttosport add the ‘final formal steps’ between the two clubs will be concluded today.
On Tuesday, Sports Zone stated Liverpool have joined the battle for Athletico Paranaense goalkeeper Bento. The Merseyside club may have shifted their focus to the Brazilian after Di Gregorio turned them down.
